Building Relationships, Sharing Dreams
Our story begins with the dream of Sebastian Ramirez, who, despite being called “crazy” by many when he first ventured into direct trade, never stopped believing in his vision. Sebastian wanted to create something different—a direct relationship between coffee producers and roasters, cutting out the middlemen and offering coffees that carry a unique fingerprint. With the support of his family, including Wilder Lazo, Heiner Lasso, and his father Don Segundo Lazo, the El Placer dream started to take shape.
These strong relationships with our partners are the foundation of our project. They believed in our mission and together, we’ve been working to create a more transparent, collaborative industry. It’s our goal to not only offer exceptional coffees but also assist other producers who may be starting their own journey and aren’t sure where to begin.
Our Commitment to the Land
Sustainability is a term that’s often used, but at El Placer, we live by it. Our commitment to sustainability means reducing our environmental footprint, and we’ve been making great strides in that direction. Our new farm, El Placer Reserve, is equipped with an innovative water collection system that ensures efficient irrigation without compromising the land or wasting resources.
Additionally, we continue to focus on natural and semi-washed processing methods, which help us minimize the water usage in our production. As we look ahead, we’re committed to reducing our environmental impact further, working alongside our partners to promote more sustainable farming practices across the board.
Strengthening Local Communities and Protecting Animals
At El Placer Farms, we believe that success goes beyond producing exceptional coffee; it’s about making a positive impact on our community. One way we’re working toward this goal is through Bienestar Animal, a small foundation led by Sebastián Ramírez and his mother, Patricia Rodríguez. Their deep love for animals has driven them to rescue and care for numerous dogs in need. Many of the animals rescued by the foundation have found loving homes, including our beloved Niña, who was adopted by Sebastián after being fostered. As many of you know, Niña became a cherished member of the El Placer team and a symbol of the love and dedication Sebastián and his family have for both people and animals.
Sebastián and his family are committed to continuing their work with Bienestar Animal, helping even more animals find safety and care. As we move forward, we aspire to increase our support for animals and expand our efforts to create a more sustainable and compassionate environment for everyone in our community. We believe that through actions like these, we can make a significant impact, not only in coffee but in the world around us.
